Terms of Service

Last updated: August 30, 2026

Effective date: August 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

  • By accessing or using BookBlurb (the "Service") at bookblurb.org (the "Site"), operated by the individual operator of bookblurb.org (the "Operator", "we", "us", "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
  • These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the Operator. The Operator is the data controller for any personal data processed under these Terms — see our Privacy Policy.

2. The Service

  • BookBlurb is a software tool that uses generative AI to help authors, editors, and publishers draft, score, and polish:
  • — Book blurbs (back-cover / catalogue descriptions).
  • — Query letters.
  • — Children's-book blurbs (mode for adults writing children's books).
  • The Service includes an AI-likeness score intended as an informational signal only (see §7).
  • The Service does not include publishing, distribution, marketing, or account-management on third-party platforms. References to Amazon, KDP, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, literary agents, or any other third party are informational only.

3. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, if higher) to register an account. By using the Service you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.
  • The Service is intended for adult authors, editors, and publishers. The children's-book mode is a tool for adults who write children's books — it does not target children as users (see §9).
  • If you are entering into these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation, in which case "you" refers to that organisation.

4. Accounts

  • 4.1 Sign-up. You may sign up with Google OAuth (Sign in with Google) or email magic link (we email you a one-time sign-in link; we do not store passwords).
  • 4.2 Account responsibility. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure (your email account, Google account, and any device you sign in from); all activity that occurs under your account; notifying us promptly at support@bookblurb.org if you suspect unauthorised access.
  • 4.3 Suspension and termination. We may suspend or terminate your account as described in §11 and our Account Suspension & Termination policy.

5. Acceptable Use

  • You agree not to use the Service to:
  • 1. Submit content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, obscene, harassing, hateful, or that promotes violence or self-harm.
  • 2. Submit prompts intended to generate content that sexualises minors, depicts non-consensual acts, or incites terrorism.
  • 3. Target a specific real, identifiable person with the intent to defame, harass, or deceive (e.g. "write a smear blurb about John Doe of X address").
  • 4. Submit copyrighted third-party text (more than short quotations) for re-writing or summarisation without having the right to do so.
  • 5. Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, attack, or otherwise compromise the Service or its sub-processors.
  • 6. Bypass rate limits, share credentials, or resell access except as permitted by an explicit Publisher team plan.
  • 7. Use the Service to train, fine-tune, or evaluate competing AI products.
  • 8. Use the Service in any manner that violates applicable law.
  • We may suspend or terminate any account that violates this section (see §11).

6. Your Content and Intellectual Property

  • 6.1 Your rights. You retain all rights to the inputs you submit and the outputs we generate for you, subject to the licence granted in §6.2.
  • 6.2 Licence to us. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, cache, transmit, display, and process your inputs and outputs for the sole purpose of operating the Service, enforcing these Terms, and improving trust-layer heuristics (e.g. the AI-likeness lexicon) only in aggregate, anonymised form.
  • 6.3 No training. We do not use your inputs or outputs to train any generative AI model. Our LLM provider is configured with opt-out from training on customer data.
  • 6.4 Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for the legality, accuracy, and non-infringement of what you submit. We do not pre-screen user inputs or outputs.

7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer — Read Carefully

  • The Service produces outputs using generative AI. AI-generated text:
  • — May contain factual errors, hallucinations, or biased phrasings.
  • — Is not professional advice — publishing, legal, financial, medical, or otherwise.
  • — Does not constitute endorsement of you, your book, or any third party.
  • — May resemble other users' outputs because the underlying model is shared.
  • — Is your responsibility to review, fact-check, and edit before publishing or submitting to a literary agent, retailer, or library.
  • 7.1 AI-likeness score. The AI-likeness score is an informational heuristic only. It is not a guarantee that any external AI detector will produce the same verdict; that a reader will perceive the output as human-written; or that a retail platform (Amazon KDP, Apple Books, etc.) will accept the output.
  • 7.2 Your disclosure obligations. You are responsible for: disclosing AI-assisted writing to retailers and literary agents in accordance with their policies (Amazon KDP, Apple Books, literary-agent guidelines, etc.); and ensuring that any claims made in your blurb ("award-winning", "#1 bestseller", comparisons to specific authors) are truthful and substantiated.

8. Credits, Billing, and Taxes

10. Service Changes and Availability

  • We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. We will try to give reasonable notice for material changes that affect paid features.
  • The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, defect-free operation, or that generated outputs will meet your requirements.

11. Suspension and Termination

  • 11.1 By us. We may suspend or terminate your account if: you materially breach these Terms (including §5 Acceptable Use); your use of the Service creates a security risk or legal liability for us or other users; required by law or a competent authority; or your subscription payment fails and is not cured within a reasonable period.
  • 11.2 By you. You may delete your account at any time via the dashboard or by emailing support@bookblurb.org. Account deletion is irreversible after the 30-day grace period.
  • 11.3 Effect of termination. Your right to use the Service ends. We delete or anonymise your personal data per our Privacy Policy §7 retention windows. Provisions that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) survive termination.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

  • 12.1 Disclaimers. To the maximum extent permitted by law: the Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated content is accurate, original, or non-infringing.
  • 12.2 Limitation of liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law: in no event shall the Operator be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 100.
  • 12.3 Carve-outs. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be excluded by applicable law, including fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation; death or personal injury caused by negligence; and statutory consumer-protection rights under EU / UK law that cannot be waived.

13. Indemnification

  • You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Operator from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any third-party right or applicable law.

14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

  • 14.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Operator's country of residence, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
  • 14.2 Good-faith resolution. Disputes shall first be addressed by good-faith contact with us at support@bookblurb.org. We will respond within 30 days.
  • 14.3 Jurisdiction. If unresolved, disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Operator's country of residence.
  • 14.4 EU / UK consumer rights. If you are a consumer in the EU / UK / EEA, mandatory consumer-protection rules and the jurisdiction of your country of residence still apply. Nothing in §14 limits your statutory right to bring proceedings in your local courts [GDPR Art. 79; EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU].

15. Changes to These Terms

  • We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with a new "Last updated" date. Where required by law, we will give reasonable advance notice (email or in-product banner). Continued use of the Service after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
  • If you do not agree to a change, you may delete your account before the change takes effect.

16. Severability and Entire Agreement

  • If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
